Azulejos

Beneath the terra cotta red roofs of Lisbon are zillions of tiles that are unique from one building to the next.

The azulejos decorate the façades and incorporate the Moorish past into a colorful present throughout the city.

I loved seeing all of the unique shapes and colors lining the streets.

While many colors tend towards the cool tones there were also splashes of yellow. With so many patterns each building has a character of its own.

Some patterns look different from afar, so I took photos of various homes and close-ups of their decorated exteriors.

Aren't they spectacular? I also love the little dog on the balcony in the middle photo.

Obrigado, Lisbon!
