purple flower

My Grandma has these flowers in her backyard. They seem so comical and as if they came from a Dr. Seuss book.

    Gorgeous flower!!! That's an amazing color. What kind of flower is it?

    I just gave her a call - she said it's called a Clematis and it's supposed to be the 'Barbara Jackman' variety, but I think it looks more like the 'General Sikorski'. Hers was growing on a lattice fence.

    They are certainly unique!
